Short-chain fatty acids are produced daily by intestinal bacteria and are needed daily by the intestinal bacteria, as well as by the human body. Regular use over a longer period of time is therefore recommended.
Propionic acid has several functions in the intestine. It is released by bacteria during digestion from fibre-rich foods. This means that intestinal bacteria release propionic acid and other short-chain fatty acids from dietary fibre. Propionic acid is an aliphatic short-chain fatty acid, in simpler terms a "defined molecule". The collective term for different molecules is probiotics.
