Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) is a naturally occurring hydrophilic bile acid. TUDCA is the taurine-conjugated form of ursodeoxycholic acid. TUDCA is found in very small amounts in human bile. 
TUDCA has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Initially, ursodeoxycholic acid was obtained from the bile secretions of the black bear and used to treat liver and eye diseases.
