Pau d'Arco, known as the "treasure of the Inca", is the dried bark of the Lapacho tree, which grows in tropical and humid climates in Central and South America.  According to historical sources, the tribes of South America used the Lapacho bark in the form of infusions for drinking (the so-called Inca tea) in the event of a variety of symptoms: from colds, coughing and breathing problems, through problems with the digestive system, and ending with serious diseases such as anemia or malaria. It is believed that the health-promoting properties of Lapacho bark are mainly due to the naphthoquinones contained in the bark, among which the most important are lapachol and beta-lapachone. Naphthoquinones have antiseptic properties - bacterial, fungus and virucidal. In addition, La Pacho bark also contains other valuable and biologically active substances, such as: alkaloids, flavonoids, and catechins (polyphenols), and numerous minerals - magnesium, calcium, iron and manganese.
