Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.), also known as bitter gourd or balsam pear, is an annual plant belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, naturally growing in areas with tropical and subtropical climates. Bitter melon has a long stem, heart-shaped leaves and large fruits with a specific, bitter taste, which are distinguished by the source of valuable ingredients - rough berries of the bitter gourd contain saponins, i.e. organic chemical compounds classified as glycosides, the content of which is standardized in the plant extract used in the OstroVit preparation.
