Muira Puama  ( Ptychopetalum olacoides )  is a plant from the mercury family. It naturally occurs in the form of a shrub or a small tree in South America, in the Amazon and Orinoco basins. The root, which is usually in the form of hard, fibrous light brown splinters, is used to make extracts. The root is odorless and has a slightly tart taste.
